Whether your child is starting school for the first time or moving up a grade, this transition can bring changes in mood, sleep patterns, and behaviour. Now is a great time to check in on your child’s development and readiness for the classroom.

How Holidays Affect Young Minds?

The relaxed rhythm of the holidays often brings joy and flexibility, but it can also disrupt structure. After a holiday break, it’s common for some children to experience temporary challenges such as difficulty focusing, emotional tantrums and fluctuations, or regression in basic skills like dressing or with communication.

While these are typically part of the transition back to routine, they can also offer an opportunity to identify areas where early support may help them adjust more smoothly.

Simple Ways to Support the Transition

Restart routines: Re-establish regular sleep and mealtimes a week or two before school starts.

Encourage communication: Read books together and have conversations about their day.

Promote independence: Let them try dressing themselves, packing their bags, or helping with simple chores.

Build excitement: Talk positively about school — meeting friends, learning new things, and fun classroom activities.
